Welcome to the

Underground Guide to Spartanburg

Discover the soulful and funky sides of the Hub City (that’s Spartanburg’s nickname) and things that don’t often show up in the official tourist publications. From Buddhist Temples to the Berlin Wall, from dive bars to the best burgers in town, this is the Underground Guide to Spartanburg.

The site is set up to help you answer the question, What do you want to do? If you are hungry, head over to the Eats section then narrow down your choices. Whether you are looking for Mexican or BBQ, you’ll find things grouped together along with a map showing how close you are to them (so say yes to the Can We Use Your Location thing). Want to grab some drinks? There’s a section for that. Hear some live music? A section for that. Take Fido to the river? Play frisbee golf? Go do some weird stuff like a ghost tour or a nudist camp? Yep, that, too.

This site will work on your computer, but it is optimized for your phone so it’s always with you . This is your pocket guide for all the cool/fun/funky things to do in and around Spartanburg.

This site is based off the book, the Underground Guide to Spartanburg. If you would like an old-fashioned, actual book, get it here:

Since its founding in 1995, Hub City Press has published more than 70 books and 700 authors and is particularly interested in books with a strong sense of place.
